This is a beautiful National Park. We went during off season, the lighthouse was closed, yet it was still beautiful to walk out to see it. We also drove through the park and was able to see some …Full review by vhash77

What a beautiful park. There are a lot of trails to walk on, with parking by the trail heads. Many of the trails are accessible, with wide gravel paths and wooden walkways. There are plenty of Poni…Full review by cjyap
On the National Park Service website, it seems like you can only get vehicle passes at the Maryland visitor's center. We will be staying in Chincoteague, so that is an hour+ away from us. Is there really no way to get a pass online or in VA? Related question: If my parents have senior passes, does that mean they don't need a vehicle pass? We are all looking forward to ponies! Thanks, Allison

Yes they live there year round . However the area where they graze is large . They can not always be seen from the pony overlook , or the road . We often go when they do the fall pinning . They round them up for health checks & vaccinations . I have never visited the area where the 2nd Va. heard is . It can be visited by bus tour or by hikers . We always ride our bikes which are not aloud near the 2nd heard . There are also ponies on the MD. 1/2 of Assateague they are lose and roam at will . There is a camping area on the Md. side . I have seen video of campers having trouble with ponies that wonder into their camp .
