Tours give a lighthouse history and a climb to the top if you are willing. At the top you can walk on the outside balcony and get a great view of Oak Island, Bald Head Island, Southport and the Cape Fear River. Sometimes you can see dolphins swim in the ocean below. There is an access to the beach across the street from the lighthouse. There is more info available online at the Oak Island Lighthouse website.
