We recently completed the stunning coastal walk around Port Macquarie as a group of three—my wife, a friend, and myself. Although my wife has rheumatoid arthritis, she managed to complete the walk wi…Full review by Scott D

The views were good but the advertising for the walks was quite misleading as all involved walking on the beaches and then climbing up or down several flights of stairs over the headlands surrounding…Full review by Iain M

You don’t have to be a seasoned hiker to do the Coastal Walking Trail. It’s a long, but reasonably easy walk, starting from the breakwall in the centre of town and finishing at Lighthouse Beach. In b…Full review by Mairwen1

Both sections are equally as good. If you start at Town Beach, the walk is fairly easy If you start at Tracking Point and and walk to the lighthouse, you see some of the smaller beaches from a height. Part of the walk between the beaches then is through pleasant bushland and trees. You will walk along less used beaches at this end too, not ikely to see anyone on a couple of them. The view from the lighhouse at the end, i.e. looking along the huge long lighhaouse beach to the south is spectacular.

It starts in the centre of Port Macquarie (Westport near Settlement City) and finishes up at Tacking Point. There are a number of sections so you don't need to do it all at once. It's a good idea to take water with you as it can be a thirsty walk depending on the weather. The walk can be divided into four sections: Westport to Town Beach (2km) Town Beach to Flynns Beach (2.2km) Flynns Beach to Shelly Beach (2.2km) Shelly Beach to Tacking Point (2.7km) You can also start the walk at Town Beach near the Breakwall, winding along the coast via Flagstaff, Rocky Beach lookout, Nobby’s Beach and Harry's lookout to Sea Acres. There are several historical sites along the way and from May to November you could quite possibly see whales on their migration. The walk ends at Tacking Point lighthouse; however you can break it up into shorter sections if you feel like a short walk or are walking with kids. There are opportunities for barbecues and swimming along the way, including at Shelley Beach and a beachside café at Flynn’s Beach that serves up gourmet burgers. You could also start the walk at Tacking Point; finishing up at the Royal Hotel in Port Macquarie.
Q:
I was just wondering whether this walk is wheelchair accessible?
A:
No - stairs, sand and rocks.

Is there public transport at the end of the walk to get me back to my car?

It depends on which way you walk. If you walk in to town from Lighthouse Beach there is a bus that goes to the lighthouse area. I'm not sure how often the bus runs though as it is a private bus service and may be infrequent. On weekends it will be very infrequent.

There are a lot of stairs if you walk from Beach to Beach, and the Beaches itself have no sealed walkways anywhere. I think the easiest way would be to get the bus/car and drive from beach to beach otherwise it would be a hard walk with a pram and for a young one because it's also hilly. Maybe it would be nice to visit the lighttower by bus and to walk the beginning of the track from the promenade to the first beach - after that, i think, it's getting to hard with a pram.
