Western Lake Superior Sanitary District was created by the Minnesota Legislature in 1971 with the mission to "protect and improve the waters of the lower St. Louis River Basin". Celebrating 40 years of operation, Western Lake Superior Sanitary District provides effective, award-winning wastewater and solid waste oversight and services to residents, businesses and industries within its 500 square mile legislative boundaries in southern St. Louis and northern Carlton counties, and is a nationally recognized leader in pollution prevention.
