Scout, which is now an independent company under the Volkswagen Group, introduced its first new-concept vehicles today: the Terra truck and the Traveler SUV. Both vehicles are body-on-frame, sitting on top a brand-new EV platform unique to Scout. And both could start at under $60,000 (with incentives) when production begins in 2027.

Scout Motors, now owned by VW, showed off a new SUV and pickup, with battery electric and range-extended powertrain options.

Today, at around at 5:00 p.m. ET, every car site will have pictures of two concept vehicles marking the return of the 44-years-defunct Scout nameplate. But it’s not like the old assembly lines that shut down in 1980 are being fired up,

The new Scout Motors brand will also offer hybrids as it competes with Ford, Rivian and Tesla for a share of the truck market.

Volkswagen’s revived Scout brand has revealed the Traveler SUV and Terra pickup. Both models are expected to start from under $60,000 when they hit the road in 2027. BEV versions will have up to 350 miles of range while the EREV will be good for over 500 miles.

The first Traveler SUVs will have a tow rating of 7,000 pounds, and the pickups will be able to haul as much as 10,000 pounds. Both will have payload ratings of one ton. So, if those numbers hold out until production commences in two years, no one will be able to say these aren’t serious entries in the big SUV and pickup truck wars.
