In a study published on Wednesday in the journal Nature Astronomy, scientists say unique auroras are visible on either side of Neptune’s equator. This discovery will allow scientists to study aspects of Neptune that have previously been out of reach.

The James Webb Space Telescope has successfully detected auroras on Neptune for the first time ever, finishing a job that NASA's Voyager 2 probe began decades ago.

"Neptune was the missing piece of the puzzle when it came to detecting auroras on the giant planets," said the European Space Agency.
