LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. (7News) — On Tuesday, polls opened in Loudoun County for two pivotal special elections. Polls close at 7 p.m.

Three special elections in Virginia will determine which party holds control of the State Senate and House of Delegates. Democrats are favored in two of the districts, both in Loudoun County, a Washington suburb. Republicans are favored to hold a rural State Senate seat west of Richmond.

Tuesday is Election Day in Loudoun County, Virginia, for two seats that will likely stay with Democrats but could flip control of the commonwealth’s upper chamber if an upset occurs, and Democrats are not taking any chances.

With over 95% of the vote counted, Singh led Venkatachalam 61.6% to 38.4%, according to the New York Times. Singh’s victory ensured the party would control the state House, giving the Democrats a slim lead over the GOP, 51-49.
