Hillsborough County plans to hire consultants to investigate why several areas of the county that rarely or never flood were inundated with water after hurricanes Helene and Milton. The Hillsborough Board of County Commissioners signed off on an idea to work with Tampa and Plant City on a probe of what Commissioner Pat Kemp called “devastating flooding” in areas where people weren’t warned

Hillsborough County Commissioner Pat Kemp said what's most concerning is that these residents were not in an evacuation zone; and severe flooding was unexpected. Hillsborough Board of County Commissioners voted in favor of launching an independent investigation of Milton flooding alongside the City of Tampa.

It’s been two weeks since Hurricane Milton, and families are still reeling from the impacts of flooding from the storm.

On Wednesday, Hillsborough County commissioners will decide whether to transfer $60 million that’s already in the county’s budget and put it toward Hurricane Milton cleanup.
