A man has died in Ireland as the hurricane-force winds of Storm Eowyn continue to batter the British Isles.Flights have been cancelled, roads closed and ferry services axed as winds surpassing 100mph hit parts of the UK and Ireland throughout Friday.

With Storm Éowyn battering Britain, several social media users reacted to warnings issued by the Met Office, with comments ranging from fairly sane to absolutely nuts.

Many rail services were cancelled or delayed as Storm Éowyn roared across the north-west of England. Transpennine Express urged customers not to travel between Manchester and Liverpool and there were no Avanti West Coast services north of Preston. Northern said no trains were running between Manchester Victoria and both Chester and Leeds.

The Met Office has put a yellow weather warning in place for Reading and areas across the south east as Storm Eowyn brings strong winds to the area.

The Met Office has issued weather warnings for the region, with Storm Eowyn moving into the Northeast and bringing significant wind gusts with it. The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for wind from 6am on Friday until 8pm.
