ATLANTA — In the most dramatic game of the first 12-team College Football Playoff so far, No. 5 seed Texas squandered a 16-point lead, missed two field goals in the final two minutes of regulation and still somehow escaped with a 39-31 double-overtime win over No. 4 seed Arizona State in the Peach Bowl, securing a spot in the semifinals.

After Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers threw a touchdown to Gunnar Helm to begin the second overtime, safety Andrew Mukuba sealed the win by intercepting Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt. Ewers finished the game with 322 yards, three touchdowns and an interception on 20 of 30 passing.

ATLANTA — Texas avoided the first big upset of the College Football Playoff, hitting a fourth-and-long touchdown pass to keep the game going and beating Arizona State 39-31 in double overtime when an interception by Andrew Makuba finally ended a Peach Bowl quarterfinal classic Wednesday.
