A strong, 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck in the Solomon Sea on Saturday, according to the United States Geological Survey. A “tsunami threat” was issued for some parts of the coast of Papua New Guinea.

A tsunami warning has been issued for Papua New Guinea after a powerful magnitude 6.9 earthquake shook the Pacific island nation, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.The USGS issued the warning for waves of up to 10 feet (3 meters) along some parts of the Papua New Guinea coastline after the temblor.
