TACO or tariffs? An August 1 deadline looms after the European Union became the latest of the top US trading partners to reach a deal with Trump.

The United States struck a framework trade deal with the European Union Sunday that imposes a 15-per-cent U.S. import tariff on most EU goods, including autos, and leaves 50-per-cent levies on steel and aluminum shipments from the continent.

The U.S. will impose a 35% tariff on Canadian goods in two weeks, citing trade imbalances and fentanyl concerns—prompting economic uncertainty on both sides.

After long insisting that Canada could avoid Trump tariffs through talks, Mark Carney now says that is unlikely for any nation.

In March, the Liquor Control Board of Ontario announced it would no longer carry American booze in response to President Donald Trump’s tariffs on the country.
