At least 1 dead, 10 hurt as 'dangerous' system hits much of U.S., spins up tornadoes and flood risk

Thunderstorms with multiple rounds of heavy rain were forecast in parts of Texas, the lower Mississippi Valley and the Ohio Valley beginning midweek and lasting through Saturday. Forecasters warned the storms could track over the same areas repeatedly and produce heavy rains and dangerous flash floods capable of sweeping cars away.

A destructive weather event will continue for millions of people across the Mid-South on Thursday, with the marathon storm persisting until Sunday.

More than 13 million Americans were under tornado watch on Wednesday evening, as destructive storms struck across the Midwest and South.

Two people were killed in Tennessee, officials said, and millions of people were under severe weather advisories and more than 300,000 customers had lost power.

Another round of strong storms moved through the Chicago area Wednesday afternoon. There was a Tornado Warning for part of northwest Indiana, which has since expired.
