A source says embattled Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is not expected to announce a decision on his future over the Christmas holidays.

In 2017, Mr. Trudeau came under pressure to stand up to Donald J. Trump, the newly elected U.S. president. As Mr. Trump restricted immigration, Mr. Trudeau restated Canada’s openness to asylum seekers, proclaiming, “ Diversity is our strength .”

After the first meeting of his new cabinet, Trudeau briefly spoke with reporters, but did not address questions about whether he will stay or whether he will prorogue parliament.
