Bugatti’s Breathtaking ‘La Voiture Noire’ is the World’s Most Expensive Car Jean Bugatti, son of company founder Ettore Bugatti, designed the highly aerodynamic Aérolithe concept car in 1935.

Bugatti unveiled the "La Voiture Noire" (The Black Car) in March at the Geneva Motor Show, a one-of-a-kind vehicle that was sold to an undisclosed customer for 16.7 million euros ($19 million).

At $18.9 million, it's the most expensive new car ever sold, Bugatti said. La Voiture Noire is powered by a 1,480-horsepower, 8.0-liter, quad-turbocharged W16 engine.

Bugatti’s new La Voiture Noire is designed to recall the Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic of the 1930s. Only four of those cars were made and, today, they’re among the most valuable cars in the world.

Bugatti began delivering the Divo in 2020. It will send the La Voiture Noire to its enigmatic new home in 2021, and Centodieci deliveries are scheduled to start in 2022.

Bugatti says that La Voiture Noire sports an 8.0-liter 16-cylinder engine that's good for a shade under 1,500 horsepower and about 1,180 pound-feet of torque, the same as the Chiron.
