Some Roaring Lion landowners cleared many of the trees around their places after the fire of 2016. Some of that timber ended up at R&S Milling near Corvallis for processing.

Six months after fire raced through Roaring Lion, burning 8,700 acres of National Forest and private land, as well as houses, crews have begun salvaging some of the fire killed timber.

On Aug. 4, stumps were lanterns fueled by sap. The blackened forest smoldered still, and the Coughey family returned to the crumbled foundation where their home lay in ashes.
