The Download APK files are used to install apps on Android devices. You need an Android emulator to open APK files on a computer. APK files are in ZIP format and can be extracted using ZIP tools.

On Android 7 and older, this access had to be enabled globally, but the newer versions of Android give users finer, more granular control over which apps can be installed using APK files.
