Stockton's McLeod Lake turned pink this week, as scientists dumped dye in the hope of figuring out why there are toxic algal blooms some years but not others.

Huntsville Water Manager Ron Gault said crews have flown drones over the line, used thermal imaging, and added dye to the water among other tests, but none of the tests have indicated a nearby leak.

Lake dye is also environmentally friendly and fish friendly. It doesn’t take much dye, so be careful not to over apply. Short-term algae control includes physical, biological and chemical methods.
