Venice has neighborhoods, but most of the big-ticket attractions are packed into San Marco. As you can imagine, this area gets incredibly busy, especially during peak months like July and August.

Day-trippers will have to pay 5 euros ($5.35) to enter the lagoon city on 29 peak days, mostly on weekends, until July 14 as part of its trial phase.
