The July 17 demonstration marked the fifth anniversary of the civil rights icon's death and is a follow-up to the No Kings rallies in June.

Inspired by the late civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis, East Texas community members gathered Thursday evening at the corner of Broadway Avenue and Shiloh Road to take part in the national Good Trouble movement,

Organizers will call for passage of the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and other voting rights legislation.

The protest, held on the fifth anniversary of the death of Congressman John Lewis, focused on immigration advocacy, voting rights and racial justice.
