Cyclone Dana spared Odisha and West Bengal of any severe damage to infrastructure while flight and rail operations resumed on Friday after the cyclonic storm completed landfall, triggering heavy rains and uprooting of trees and electric poles.

Cyclone Dana is starting to lose strength after wreaking havoc in the coastal area of the Indian states of Odisha and West Bengal. The cyclone began to make landfall around 11:30am on Thursday and had moved completely inland by dawn on Friday. The wind speeds were as high as 120 kmh at the time it made landfall, but have since eased.

Mamata also held a review meeting at the state secretariat after spending the night there to monitor the situation and directed the officials to ensure that relief materials reach all those affected by the cyclone.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned that Cyclone Dana is moving north-northwestward and is expected to make landfall between Puri and Sagar Island in Odisha and West Bengal in the next 3-4 hours.
