Rory McIlroy came within a whisker of his second Genesis Scottish Open title, but ultimately finished two strokes behind a surprising winner.

Chris Gotterup came up with the clutch shots on the biggest stage he has faced Sunday, taking down crowd favorite Rory McIlroy with a 4-under 66 and a two-shot victory in the Scottish Open that gives him another week of links golf.

Playing alongside fellow 54-hole co-leader Rory McIlroy in the final group of the final round of the Genesis Scottish Open, Gotterup closed in 4-under 66 to post 15-under 265 at The Renaissance Club, good for a two-stroke victory and 500 FedExCup points. It pays out $1,575,000 in prize money allocated from a purse of $9 million.

Although an unsuspecting pro is still searching for his first top-10 finish of the year, that didn't stop him from making a big splash at the Scottish Open.
