A woman says Spirit Airlines denied her boarding over her shorts, sparking a dispute that ended with her sister's arrest.

A Texas woman claimed a Spirit Airlines agent refused to let her check in for a flight due to safety concerns from a cosmetic procedure she underwent days earlier. Shataria Banks wasn’t permitted to board her flight at Miami International Airport on July 23 despite her doctor alleging that she had clearance to fly.

Spirit Airlines emerged in March from bankruptcy after filing for it in November, when it reported losing $1.2 billion for 2024. The low-cost airline cut flights and fired about 200 people companywide. With its debts renegotiated, Spirit is trying to cater to wealthier people, CEO Ted Christie has said.
