In Morgan County, Tenn., a mother and daughter were killed at home and three other people were injured when a tornado touched down about 8 p.m., according to local emergency management officials.

The tornado in Deer Lodge in Morgan County had maximum winds of 135 mph (217 kph) and was rated as an EF2, which is considered “significant” on the Enhanced Fujita scale.

A different tornado struck in Grainger County, about a two-hour drive northeast of Morgan County. The weather service said the EF1 tornado in Thorn Hill had estimated top winds of 110 mph.
