Oklahoma City got their third shot in the Utah Summer League, taking on the host team, the Utah Jazz. Headlined by an impressive performance from second-year guard Ajay Mitchell, the Thunder fell to the Utah Jazz 86-82.

The California Classic featured the Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers, San Antonio Spurs and the Golden State Warriors while the Salt Lake City League featured the Memphis Grizzlies, Oklahoma City Thunder, Philadelphia 76ers and Utah Jazz. Layden, first hired in the NBA by Hall of Famer Hubie Brown as an assistant for the Atlanta Hawks, came to Utah as the New Orleans Jazz moved to the state in 1979. Then the team’s general manager, Layden stepped into the role of the team’s head coach in 1981.

Frank Layden, known around Utah for his impact in the basketball community, has died at the age of 93. Layden passed away Wednesday, the Deseret News confirmed. ABC 4’s Wesley Ruff was the first to report the news.
