President Trump’s decision to reel in some of Elon Musk’s indiscriminate approach to slashing the federal work force reflects a growing unease among Republicans.

President Donald Trump had “very little” to say during an explosive Oval Office meeting Wednesday, instead choosing to watch the sparring match unfold between DOGE head Elon Musk and Secretary of State Marco Rubio “like it was some kind of sporting event.

What was clear was that some of the nation’s cabinet secretaries had hit their breaking point with Musk’s efforts to steamroll the federal government. And while Trump said he still supported Musk’s mission, he gave his secretaries something they wanted. As Jonathan and Maggie wrote:
