BLOOMINGTON — Indiana football corner Jamier Johnson is no longer with the program, according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Johnson wasn’t included in the updated 2025 roster the Hoosiers posted on their website Wednesday afternoon. He had 35 tackles (25 solo) with an interception in 10 starts for IU last season.
The Hoosiers trailed by as many as 15 points in the first quarter, but even as they turned up their intensity to cut into the Fighting Illini’s lead, their efforts fell short. Indiana suffered a 54-68 loss to Illinois on Thursday inside Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington.
Indiana entered the matchup on a three-game losing streak. In their losses to Illinois, No. 4 USC and Oregon, the Hoosiers averaged just 55.7 points per game. Over that stretch, Garzon averaged just 7 points, shot 26.4% from the field and 22.7% from long range per game.
Jamier Johnson was a holdover from Tom Allen's time as Indiana football coach. But the starting cornerback is no longer with the Hoosiers.
Part of the reason for Galloway’s struggles stems from the knee injury he suffered at the end of the 2023-24 season. He underwent offseason knee surgery and didn’t participate in summer workouts, which he noted after Indiana’s 82-69 win over USC on Jan. 8 led to what he implied was a lack of chemistry early in the season.
Randle El spent the last four seasons as a wide receivers coach with the Detroit Lions. In Chicago, he will reunite with newly hired head coach Ben Johnson. Johnson and Randle El coached together in Detroit when Johnson served as the team’s offensive coordinator.
Tight games, controversy, great performances and two titans on the sideline defined two decades of the Indiana-Purdue rivalry.
