The Wisconsin Badgers women’s basketball team returned to action on the road in Minneapolis for a border battle against No. 23 Minnesota Sunday. Despite the hard-fought first half, the Badgers fell 71-50 .

The visit by the Badgers comes in the midst of what could be the Gophers’ most challenging stretch of the season. After a lopsided loss and a tie last weekend at Michigan State, Minnesota is 19-6-3 overall and ranked fourth nationally in the latest polls, but the Gophers have gone a pedestrian 2-3-1 in their past half-dozen games.

Behind a balanced scoring attack and diligent second-half defense, the Wisconsin men’s basketball team overcame a slow start to handily defeat the Minnesota Golden Gophers 80-59 on Jan. 10.
