The federal government on Friday released the first tranche of approximately 50,000 pages of classified documents related to the investigation into the assassination of Robert F. Kennedy in 1968.

Many of the files had been made public previously, but others had not been digitized and sat for decades in federal government storage facilities.

Trump's release of the files is backed by the senator's son Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has long believed there may have been a second gunman.
