Amid massive delays and closures, Diamond Comic Distributors has filed for bankruptcy, signaling a major shift in the world of physical comic books.

Diamond Comics Publishers, which once held a near-monopoly on the distribution of comics in America, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

Diamond Comic Distributors, one of North America's largest distributors of English-language comic books and graphic novels, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The company, owned by Geppi Family Enterprises, has a portfolio that includes Alliance Game Distributors, Diamond Book Distributors, and Diamond UK, among other businesses.

As part of the restructuring, Diamond has received a $39 million “stalking horse” bid from an affiliate of Universal Distribution for its Alliance Game Distributors.

Recently, the parent company of Alliance Game Distributors, one of the largest tabletop distributors in the business, filed for bankruptcy.
