The role opened up after former Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell resigned last month to take a position with the Trump administration.

The five-mile 183A toll extension between Hero Way in Leander and SH 29 in Liberty Hill opened to traffic early Wednesday morning. Until now, 183A in this area had just been a frontage road.

The 5-mile section of the road will create a new way for drivers to travel from Liberty Hill to northwest Austin.
