The Ouachita River hit historic flood levels this week, leaving a path of damage for residents along parts of Highway 7.

Increased visitor use, aging infrastructure, and the need to enhance safety and services for the public have prompted the adjustments.

Part of the work, outlined in a draft environmental assessment, would reconnect two historic oxbows that were cut off by construction of the Yellowstone Park Railway in 1910.
