Three Long Island fire departments that displayed the Confederate flag have now reached a settlement over alleged discrimination.

The complaints, originally filed in 2021, alleged that the Brookhaven and Levittown Fire Departments displayed Confederate flags on department property, violating the New York State Human Rights Law.

The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for parts of upstate New York State due to hazardous fire weather conditions. This warning is in effect until 8 p.m. this evening.
