A mandatory evacuation order was issued Thursday for areas around the Airport Fire burn scar in Orange County due to potential debris flows.

In Santa Barbara, people living in at-risk areas were told to leave by 3 p.m. Wednesday. The National Weather Service in Los Angeles said on X around 5 p.m. local time that the storm was "rapidly intensifying" over Los Angeles County.

Severe storms across California triggered debris flows, floods, and power outages. Heavy snow and ice impacted the Pacific Northwest, while a polar vortex threatens record-breaking cold across the U.S.

As heavy rain from a large storm subsided, officials in Southern California said rock and mudslides remain a threat.
