This Black History Month, the Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) remembers retired Cpl. Luther Watkins Sr., who made history as the department’s first Black officer. The PGPD took to social media Wednesday to announce his death.

Officers received a call at approximately 2 p.m. According to police, a Metro Access van was struck by gunfire. No one inside the van was injured.
