Scottish soap opera River City will come to an end next year in the latest hit to the continuing drama genre. The BBC production takes place in the fictional district of Shieldinch in Glasgow, with a particular focus on the residents of Montego Street, whose lives are filled with overlapping drama.
BBC axes soap River City after 23 years
More bad news for the soap genre with BBC confirming it will discontinue Scotland soap River City after 23 years on air. Set in the fictional Shieldinch community in Glasgow, River City is filmed in Dumbarton. In 2023, the soap won ‘Best Drama’ at the Royal Television Society Scotland awards.
