A HSV Commodore VN Group A used as a prototype for Australian touring-car racing in the early 1990s has sold at auction for more than $135,000.

Classic HSV VN SS Group A Commodore to sell for huge sum Australia stopped building cars years ago, but the price for old Aussie machines have skyrocketed, and these particular cars are gold mines.

A 1990 Holden VN Commodore SS Group A prototype is being auctioned, complete with a hand-built HRT V8 race engine.

The VN SS Group A has top shelf Aussie motorsport pedigree, with the cars competing in the Group A racing series during 1991 and 1992. The vehicle is expected to sell for more than $500,000.
