“The revisions are hard evidence,” National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett argued during a Sunday appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” citing what he claimed were “patterns” in the changes that have been made to jobs data in recent years.

President Donald Trump removed the head of the agency that produces the monthly jobs figures after a report showed hiring slowed in July and was much weaker in May and June.

Friday’s jobs report showed that just 73,000 jobs were added last month and that 258,000 fewer jobs were created in May and June than previously estimated.

An anemic July jobs report boosted expectations the Federal Reserve might lower interest rates in September. Trump said the jobs report was "rigged."

Kevin Hassett said the president wants his own people at the agency to provide “more transparent and reliable” jobs data.
