Speaking to journalists in Erie, Pennsylvania on Saturday, the host of "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver" said he had grown up watching U.S. late night television, adding that the cancellation was "terrible news for the world of comedy".
Colbert may not be able to sit anywhere he wants when his series ends, but he’s definitely going to have a few seats to choose from.
CBS announced on Thursday that 'The Late Show With Stephen Colbert' would end in 2026, but the timing, coincidental or not, comes as Paramount tries to sell itself to Skydance.
The decision "is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount," the network said.
Oliver has appeared multiple times on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert as well as the earlier iteration with David Letterman in 2015.
