A new bill making its way through New York City Council would take away at least one major stress for pet owners in the city. The just-introduced legislation would allow people to use their own paid sick time to take of their pets when necessary.

Democratic Councilman Shaun Abreu introduced a bill that updates the Earned Safe and Sick Time Act. The original act allows employees to take off to take care of themselves or family members, but the change would see that start to apply to pets and service animals as well.

Demetrius Crichlow has been appointed the permanent president of New York City Transit, the MTA announced Wednesday. Crichlow had been serving as the interim New York City Transit president since spring after the departure of Richard Davey.
