Earlier this week, Oracle announced it had signed a single cloud computing contract worth $30bn in annual revenue beginning in 2028, without naming the customer. People close to the matter confirmed to the Financial Times that the customer was OpenAI as part of its expansion of Stargate.

Oracle will develop multiple data centers across the US with partners, Bloomberg reports. The existing Abilene, Texas, data center campus, built with partner Crusoe, could be expanded from 1.2GW to 2GW, while it is also evaluating other sites in Texas.

Oracle announced a joint venture called Stargate, with OpenAI and SoftBank, to invest billions in expanding AI infrastructure and provide massive computing power.
