ICE targeted the father with intelligence provided from local law enforcement, according to acting ICE Director Todd Lyons. However, since Da Silva was in the country illegally and was driving his father's car, he was detained, according to officials.

Despite a Milford High School student not being the intended target of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents over the weekend, federal officials on Monday defended the decision to arrest the teenager.

The Milford teen detained by ICE is currently at a holding facility in Burlington. ICE officials revealed that he was not the intended target, but because he was here illegally, he was arrested anyway.
