The suspect who police believe gunned down two firefighters Sunday after starting a brush fire in Idaho wanted to pursue a career as a firefighter himself, his grandfather told CNN.

A northwest Idaho community is still reeling after a 20-year-old man was suspected of fatally shooting two firefighters and injuring another after intentionally starting a fire to ambush them.

Wess Roley, 20, was living out of his vehicle and his former roommate said he shaved off his long hair and started to "kind of go downhill.”
