It seems like black would go better than brown with a gray suit, but maybe there is something I don’t know. Either black or brown shoes are "correct" with a gray suit.

Navy suit: Black belt and black shoes or brown belt and brown shoes ... A good shade of cognac and all points darker [Left: shoes ($385) by Grenson; belt ($75) by Cole Haan] will suffice.
