During his first weekend back in the White House, Trump again visited North Carolina to scope out Helene damage and toured the aftermath of devastating wildfires in Los Angeles. But he also used those trips to sharply criticize the Biden administration and California officials.

The governor said Tuesday that the state had “assets, resources and personnel” in place before the July 4 floods. On Wednesday evening, the death toll rose to 120.

Before heading to Texas July 11, the president expanded a federal disaster declaration for the floods, making residents of eight Central Texas counties eligible for federal assistance programs.

Rescue efforts began Friday, but FEMA did not deploy its network of Urban Search and Rescue teams until Monday.

The president met with state and local officials, who praised the White House response, and lashed out at a question on whether aid and rescue efforts occurred fast enough.
