Veterans with the Montford Point Marine Association visited Tuckaseegee Elementary School to share the story of the the first-ever Black marines, who trained at Montford Point here in North Carolina.

In 1941, the formation of the first group of Black military pilots and mechanics was underway in Tuskegee, Alabama where thousands of men and women trained to serve in World War II.

DETROIT — Retired Lt. Col. Harry Stewart Jr., a decorated combat pilot of World War II’s mostly Black 332nd Fighter Group, commonly known as the Tuskegee Airmen, has died. He was 100.
