Three people aboard a small airplane were killed over the weekend when the aircraft crashed in the Pacific Ocean off the central California coast, authorities said.

A small plane carrying three people crashed off of the coast near Monterey on Saturday night.

Emergency crews responded late Saturday following reports of plane down about 300 yards (275 meters) off Point Pinos in Monterey County, the U.S. Coast Guard said in a statement Sunday.
