Salvadoran national Kilmar Abrego Garcia is headed back to the U.S. to face federal charges for allegedly smuggling migrants, some linked to MS-13.

Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, who had been living in Maryland and legally protected from deportation, had been held in a Salvadoran prison since March 15.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia, whose mistaken deportation to El Salvador became a political flashpoint in the Trump administration’s stepped-up immigration enforcement, was returned to the U.S. to face criminal charges.
