ALLEN PARK — After losing wide receiver Jacob Cowing to an undisclosed injury during Wednesday’s practice, the San Francisco 49ers added to their depth by signing former Detroit Lions receiver Quintez Cephus. ESPN’s Adam Schefter was first to report the news. In a corresponding move, the 49ers waived running back Israel Abanikanda.

The San Francisco 49ers haven't had the best luck at wide receiver, so they've signed another veteran and released a running back to make room.

And on Thursday, the 49ers agreed to a contract with Quintez Cephus, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. They cut RB Israel Abanikanda to make room. Cephus was a fifth-round pick in 2020 by the Lions.
